Once worked at this hole in the wall dive bar. It was a fun bar. Lots of drinking! I worked for $14 an hour and was happy about it at the time. Often worked alone or with one other no matter how busy we were.
It was a 50 seat joint and the bar staff took all the food orders but I/we ran the food and cleared the tables.
We made from scratch all the food, everything!
Got paid. Very rarely got any tips and if I did they were paid monthly at the owners discretion. No way to track them or what they were for.
One Saturday night/Sunday morning I was clearing up and scrubbing the kitchen down before I left for the night. The bar was closed but still rocking.
The owners were in partying up a storm. I asked for my tips and was told that that was now at the discretion of the bar staff.
I basically had to beg the bar worker to pay me my tips. She was pissed, she was a piece of work. She pulled out a wad of 20’s and 50’s as thick as my arm and peeled me off a 20 a single 20 and proceeded to tell me it was rent day the next day.
Last shift!
She was a coke head and I have wondered what came of her. Not to often though.
TL:DR: tip the kitchen, don’t be a POS.
