Boss said something to a coworker yesterday that's been pissin me off the more i stew on it.
The coworker he was talking to has two kids and a wife. Dude almost never calls off or takes vacation, but when he does it's usually cause of one of the kids being sick or having appointments or something.
The girl that works with me has a kid and medical issues, still almost never calls off, but needs to sometimes like people do. Shit pops up.
My mom had four strokes in a year last year, three in three months. I've been having to divert course halfway to work about once, sometimes twice a month to go get her diapers before everything closes. (I work third shift and she never realizes she's out till I'm on my way to work for some reason.) Or to go clean up the bathroom after an accident. Or whatever.
Anyway, with that out of the way, you know what this fuckin dude said to my coworker? “We got another operator on 2nd, so we're fully staffed over here now.”
CW: “yeah?”
Super: “Yep, and he's the perfect employee already.”
CW: “How's that?”
Super: “No kids, no wife, says he already does 12's every day where he's at now, says he's cool with coming in every weekend for more overtime, and doesn't really call in sick ever if he can help it. Plus he can program the machines from scratch.” (I'd like to see the first time dude tries to use this garbage nesting software).
Not sure what coworker said in response, but we're all kinda pissed in this department now. It was an obvious dig at all of us for having lives outside of work. I signed up for occasional overtime when i signed on, and my first year here was mandatory Saturday every Saturday for a year. That's why I don't volunteer now. Especially since our department only has two machines, and I'm not working anywhere else, i don't know enough of other people's jobs. We already have two people that do every weekend anyway, so if i did come in it'd hafta be a weird day with weird crazy hours when no one is here, or there's only one operator.
How would he like it if he got told he didn't spend enough time away from his girlfriend / home on a constant basis?
