I took a 1 week vacation on July 4th. In February I asked my boss if it was alright. Got no response. Asked again 2 or 3 times over the course of the next two months. May 1st I put it into the work calender and said. “Hey I put that vacation time taking into the calendar, take a look and let me know if it's all okay.” No response. Eventually I take my vacation. At my review the director brings it up and says something like “we really need you to be more communicative about time off, that vacation you took came as a shock and it was hard for us to get coverage.”
Meanwhile my boss can't even let me know what day off I have till the week of…
I've discovered thus year that working for a non-profit means there are 12 people who make 60-90k who spend their time talking about doing something and 3 people who make 20-40k actually doing the thing.
