Antiwork

Had a lovely morning getting my time wasted by a company with ridiculous hiring requirements.

I tried to get a job at the same place my aunt has worked at for 20 years. She answers the phones and does secretarial type work and has always been very happy there. She got the job in 2001 with only a high school diploma and work experience of waitressing at Denny's as a teen. I interviewed for the same position she does. The other 2 ladies she's worked with for 2 decades are both retiring. I interviewed and the manager loved me. She called me 4 hours after my interview and said she'd recommended me for the position, and could I come in the next Friday (today) to meet with the assistant administrator and go over details. I went into the meeting with the administrator where he immediately told me I did not qualify for the position because I only have an associates degree and 2 years experience as an office manager. They are requiring at least a bachelor's degree or 7 years experience – to do basic office work, and answer the phone. This meeting could 100% have been a phone call, email, or FFS even a TEXT MESSAGE instead of allowing me to take time off my current horrible job, dress up, commute to the office, wait in the lobby 45 minutes AFTER the scheduled meeting time, only to tell me they had completely wasted my time, gas, energy, and hope.
