Handed in my notice after a complete burnout – am I crazy?!

Not in the US, so the same employment law/practices aren't applied. Just wondering if what I did and the circumstances for doing so are justified or if I'm just stupid, tbh. I work in a company that's 100km from me. I commute two hours each way, Monday to Friday and was told initially that I could come in a little later (10.30 instead of 9) and leave at 5. This is mainly because I'm already working as I travel to and from work. This has since changed and im now expected to be in the office for 9, which isn't what we agreed. The people I work with are great, but one of my managers is a workaholic and expects everyone to be the same. The idea of working 9-5.30 to them is ridiculous, as they believe that overworking is the standard, not the exception. I'm a single mother, and…

I'm a single mother, and I barely get to see my toddler during the week. With working to and from work, I'm actually committing more hours than if I were to live closer to the office. I've found out that the person I share my office with hasn't had a pay increase since she started there 4 years ago. There's some nepotism that alot of people notice. I also was told that I couldn't work from home for even 1 day a week, as I was needed in the office every day but other people have been allowed to who live closer to the office, so it's really a one rule for one and one for another. Many of the tasks can be done from home, it's just so that people can drop in work rather than “taking 10 minutes to scan a document to me”… literally exact words used.

My health hasn't been great since I've become really stressed with trying to balance raising a child (father doesn't really have any role) and feeling guilty for relying on family so much. Running a house has also become impossible because when I do get a break on weekends, I'm cleaning and catching up from the rest of the week… I don't see friends, dating is literally not an option as I don't have the time. I'm not sleeping and the cost of the commute is really expensive. The company offered to help with this as there's a scheme to cut the cost of the commute but despite reminding them numerous times it wasn't on their priority list and they missed the deadline.

I had a situation last week where I asked if I could work from home that day and I got chewed out. The next day, I sent an email saying that while I appreciate the opportunity and experience I had been given, I couldn't foresee myself continuing with the role. I don't have a backup right now and I'll need to find something ASAP but I felt like it was the best option for ny mental health.

I'll be handing in a formal letter of resignation tomorrow. I was fooling myself into thinking that the role was a viable option with the journey. Am I crazy?!
