Has any of you once thought that you had a great boss who had your back, only to one day discover that you are actually just another ordinary staff to him/her?

What gave you the impression that you are special? E.g manipulative boss who made you feel you are heard? How did you realise the truth that you are not, and how did you handle it? Sure, this is a working relationship, but just like any other relationship, even if it is just a common friendship, it definitely feels disappointing if you realise what you thought was a unique bond with a particular individual, is nothing special to that person and this “bond” you thought you had, was just your one sided thinking.
