Has any one seen this documentary on why we work so much in the first place?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q98aCklzCBE It's by DW. I was glad to see somebody break the illusion that the robots will save us from the need to do labour. Famous economist John Maynard Keynes predicted in a paper in the 1930's that his grandkids would only need to work a 15 hour workweek compared to the 40 hour standard workweek of the day. Presumably this is due to increases in productivity of machinery, systems and logistics making tasks way easier. I'm personally working 45hrs and used to do more, many others do many more. This dream of working less than 40 hours was not a pipe dream of Keynes, it was absolutely robbed from the middle class in exchange for corporate profits, dangling the proverbial carrot of iphones, moores law and an ever more affordable 300+hp engine on wheels. IMO this can only be addressed with a seismic re-calibration of the current order, no…

It's by DW.

IMO this can only be addressed with a seismic re-calibration of the current order, no innovation in the technological space will shift the ratio of wealth transfer sufficiently. Especially not of late with that humungous wealth transfer to the rich which happened over covid, the inequality is actually getting worse.

Some suggestions of where to start this seismic shift might be to have:

  • Money out of politics
  • Open accounting of public interest bodies
  • Open source central bank monetary regulatory policy (i.e. cash rate related to direct democracy)
  • Heavily regulate and constrict products/services/advertising which can bring the public harm
    • Alcohol
    • Plastics & packaging industry
    • Gambling and other addictive substances
    • Big pharma {Look for how overpriced countries are relatively to one another}
  • Switch from a representative to a direct democracy for civil matters, i.e.
    • Local Tax Rates to facilitate a community desired velocity of money
    • Drug policy controlled and enforced locally
    • Domestic affairs to be sorted through processes designed to restore relationships as well as hold accountability, can borrow from psychology or indigenous/cultural practices .
  • Public dividends from land, whether it's tax in the case of private ownership or a formal commitment to serving the public interest to void any tax

All very well and good if suggestions like these were consensus at a world leaders meeting or something but since I'm just an average person much I figured I'd post something here, bounce some ideas around, kick off a branch of the revolution y'know?
