Has anyone else had work try to strong-arm them into after-work hangouts?

Is this a thing? How can this be a thing? My job is apparently starting these after-work hangouts and I am so confused. They're literally saying they're mandatory now and I HAVE to go them. I argued with them saying there was nothing in the hiring process or job description that says I have to go to these things after work. I already told my manager I had saved her emails and texts about it being “mandatory” so if she wants to fire me for this i'll be seeing her in a wrongful termination lawsuit. (of course, I'm bluffing since there is no way in hell I'd be able to afford it, but I'm just hoping it buys me enough time to find another job somewhere.) is this really a thing? Does anyone else have work try this shit?
