My bfs job is at a union company that makes vaccines and they suspect someone took two weeks when they lied and said they had Covid symptoms. This might’ve not been the first time.
His job paid the workers for a few days without them having to use much pto time while they were out with Covid.
So now there’s a possibility due to incidents like the above that anyone who catches Covid and has to stay home for a bit won’t get paid by the company, they are only able to use pto time which doesn’t accrue for them.
They also didn’t screen anyone before they came in or have them get tested and the workers have been caught surprised when they learn of people being out with Covid as they don’t learn until later.
Now due to the potential hooky incidents and not for anyones safety it seems, they are going to start having people test if they have symptoms before coming in.
But what of people that work there that have families and either they or their families catch Covid? Now they potentially can’t get compensated if they actually have Covid and have to use pto time which doesn’t accrue for them.
I work at the daycare affiliated with the company and a lot of the kids parents work there. Daycare is expensive in general anyway. I have pto which accrues and get compensation for if I catch Covid again.
If the above thing they might do with Covid comes to pass, I can’t see anything good. Why give people more of a reason to quit and risk loosing more workers?
I hate when someone’s screwup creates consequences for everyone. Only the parties who did so should be held accountable in my opinion.
