My boss just spent an hour invalidating my autism and my diagnosis.

I’m autistic. I was diagnosed as an adult a few months ago. Today, I met with my boss after asking for some minor accommodations. Some highlights: -everyone has anxiety, and everyone is on the spectrum -me clarifying that aspergers as a diagnosis is pretty outdated is wrong -a manager touching me at work is my own boundary that she crossed and not a general boundary/that manager didn’t do anything wrong -people don’t misunderstand me, I don’t conform enough to people’s needs and standards (despite asking for clarification and what would be clear 15 times and being as clear and direct as possible to avoid that) -me sharing about my life is too personal but my coworker mentioning her whole family thinks she’s Muslim when she isn’t and my manager saying she’s pregnant via a reciprocal IVF is fine -my accommodation requests are not fathomable (despite them being something as minor…

I’m autistic. I was diagnosed as an adult a few months ago. Today, I met with my boss after asking for some minor accommodations. Some highlights:

-everyone has anxiety, and everyone is on the spectrum
-me clarifying that aspergers as a diagnosis is pretty outdated is wrong
-a manager touching me at work is my own boundary that she crossed and not a general boundary/that manager didn’t do anything wrong
-people don’t misunderstand me, I don’t conform enough to people’s needs and standards (despite asking for clarification and what would be clear 15 times and being as clear and direct as possible to avoid that)
-me sharing about my life is too personal but my coworker mentioning her whole family thinks she’s Muslim when she isn’t and my manager saying she’s pregnant via a reciprocal IVF is fine
-my accommodation requests are not fathomable (despite them being something as minor as an email clarifying what I need done for the week because we get 50 emails a week)

I went for a meeting about accommodations and left sobbing. Happy Thursday.
