Spoiler alert for all of the leftists: trade unions probably have more Trumpists in them than your non-union workplace.
I thought joining a union was escaping a lot of the bullshit, but nope. It's all the same, except now I have school, too (which isn't even actually free like they advertise. It's about $1000/yr. It's not that much but when you're only making $30,000 a year, that's a chunk of change.
Grueling physical labor all day.
Bosses who are in the union too that still ask you to do unsafe shit, and to just “keep an eye out for the safety guy”
Getting hassled for needing time off. Was legit told to “expect not to take a vacation for 5 years (length of apprenticeship)”
Everybody loves being in the union but are all ass-backwards in love with the GOP despite their pretty blatant anti-union stance.
Everybody is either racist and bigoted as shit or apathetic and willing to look the other way while people spew that shit.
And the money isn't even that much better. First-year wages are on par with McDonalds or other entry level service jobs, but the work is twice as demanding.
Finally got debt free and then in order to do this job had to buy a car and now I'm back in debt working paycheck to paycheck.
It gets better and by year five you'll be making $72,000, provided you don't get seriously injured and unable to work. Meanwhile a close friend of mine got an internship via nepotism from a family member working for Paramount Pictures and now two years later she works there making $90,000 in HR at 29 years old.
I feel like I can't do life, man.
