Have any of you switched fields/careers after doing the same line of work all of your adult life?

Question in the title. Context: My spouse has been out of work since 2016 because of many reasons mostly being it would cost us money if she went back to work (part-time at ~$9/hour wouldn't even pay for the second car + insurance + childcare we would need to buy). She feels unfulfilled not working so I was going to suggest changing to a different field because childcare/education just isn't worth the stress for no pay. Before I do that I'd like to hear how some of you have adapted to a change in field/career and if it was more or less stressful that it seems. I don't want to suggest something that's not worth the hassle.
