Hearing a lot that Democrats are no different but people never seem to see the parties are appealing to who will vote.

In a two party system, you need to win so much that the political system shifts. That's how the Republicans became dominant. They won everything in the 80s and the Democrats became more conservative. Then it happened again after Clinton. If you make it where no one can win as a Republican then you get a left Democrat running against a centrist And you can actually elect people who will change things. People have this idea that one election changes the world. It doesn't and that's why you all get disappointed. Obama once said it's like turning direction in a ship. People have this idea that one election changes the world. It doesn't and that's why you all get disappointed. Obama once said it's like turning direction in a ship. You can't do a 180 you have to make a big circle because change is slow. You have to vote for decades.

When the depression happened, things were so bad that the Republicans lost everything and the democratics who were as average as you think they are now got to do anything they wanted.

FDR became the longest tenured president and he took the system and flipped it upsidedown. And because of that period they were popular and had dominated politics until the southern strategy was put in place during the civil rights movement. After that it still took decades for the conservatives to take over the system. The world we live in began in 1964 when the Republicans decided to throw a hail Mary and built everything on appealing to racists and Bible thumpers. Almost 60 years to get here. There were more people who were conservative then and they chipped away at everything.

Now more people are liberal and if they just voted that way every time, then in 20 years they could change everything.

Another thing people never look at is census years. Gerrymandering always exists and will always give preference to whoever draws the lines. You give dominant control of the state to one party for two censuses in a row and the state will be their color in the house of representatives for a while.

But it means fighting for a long time. If you want a Bernie to win you have to make it impossible for a Trump to win, them impossible for a Biden to win. That takes a long time of voting.

Trump didn't magically end Roe V Wade. He was the final domino that started in 1964.
