I 27F have been working with a global software company for 3 years.
I was hired into the first role in my continent and was tasked with being the face of the team to my local leadership. Been excelling in the role; however only issue was the lack of team growth despite our customer base increasing.
Two years into my role, my company merged with another, and a whole restructure commenced. No significant impact to me until discussions started about me reporting directly into my Region. We have one Main Manager for our department in the region, but he is not versed in my role or team processes.
I was asked to come up with feedback on how we could approach the regional issues and develop a detailed timeline on how we could structure my team to cater to all international regions not just my own. This was ignored and, without any conversation told me I now had a hybrid role between teams and would report to the local manager. No compensation update or job description change despite the considerable difference in the role. On top of this, I still need to keep regular contact up with my old team via a dotted line.
3 months in now and it’s been a nightmare. My new Manager gatekeeps information but when it comes to strategy he expects me to come up with the new process and implement the changes. Had to train a whole new team member who I was told I wasn’t managing. However I am asigning all his work and took my boss 4 weeks to even have a 1:1 with the new hire.
I am recieving feedback from local leadership about their struggles with my team since the management change and also contacted by my secondary manager to give direct feedback on the issues.
I thought things where changing or atleast I was being heard. Today I get another department update via email with no heads up. Due to Timezone differences email came in over the weekend and contains considerable changes to my global team.
I sent off an email with feedback to my secondary manager that I felt uncomfortable with lack of clarity and communication from my local manager. He replies and basically rips me to threads in a very polite corporate way and cc’d my manager. Now my manager emails me saying he is disappointed I didn’t call him.
For months I have been trying to navigate this and been working my ass off to keep my local team functioning effectively with no support.
Not sure if I am wasting my time or maybe I am just the issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
