Hello everybody,
I hope everything is okay.
I have a little story to share with you.
Introduction
Recently a division from a company was sold to another company and also they dismissed the head of HR because they hired a lot of new people like couple hundreds and 90% didn't stay longer than 6 months. Company policy was to retain hires. Maybe even if the contract is signed it won't go through if not enough employees are still working. Who knows?
Meet our hero
Johnny boy has been working at this company for almost 10 years. Our hero is a tech guy who knows the ins and outs of the products the company produces. He is like the firefighter that will extinguish the fire when stuff starts burning. A very versatile guy that likes a good challenge.
One day Johnny boy gets called by the big boss ( his boss's boss ) to a meeting. He is asked if everything is alright, if he has any problems that they can help with. Our hero senses a red flag and goes with the flow. He kindly responds that everything is good. Boss face starts to change and he goes to this bulldog mode feeling the angry tone in his voice. He starts saying that nobody is satisfied with hero's work. After some intimidating looks he tells our hero that he has two choices :
- A – “Get your ass working harder.”
- B – “Look for another job.”
Hero calmly responds “okay” and gets up and leaves the meeting whilst big boss has another shift in face.
Hero proceeds to sign his resignation, giving a 4 week notice starting the next day and email it to little boss.
Little boss ignores resignation and does not forward it to HR.
Little boss doesn't interact with hero anymore.
Tomorrow is the supposed last day of work for our hero. Knowing that little boss didn't do anything our hero's contract is still running. Hero will go have a talk with HR. Hero might be available for consulting on hourly basis who knows?
If you would be the hero what would you say to HR?
