just a story i figured you all would appreciate –
I worked at as a hotel front desk person for about 9 months last year, after having only ever worked in manufacturing my whole life. The job was easy, fold laundry, answer the phone, check in guests, fill the little store. Some nights were hard, but that's just how work is.
It was all great until we got a new third shift person. She would never show up on time, and sometimes not show up at all. After having texted my boss (and hers) about this, several times, and having the assistant general manager come in to cover her, and complaining to him, I finally had enough and decided to just work my scheduled hours. I would leave at the end of my shit, come hell or high water, and whatever happens after that isn't my problem.
Needless to say, after three nights of the desk being empty for about an hour each night, I got yelled at. “We're a family! It's everyone's responsibility!” No, no, it's yours, as the boss, to make sure the people you hire show up. Not my problem. (I quit and now do a hybrid WFH)
