So, we had our quarterly company feedback session, where all the big wigs and their respective executives tell us how great they are and high five each other. Anyhow…
In this meeting today, they confirmed 63 people resigned last year to date (this out of 200 total employees at this company), attributing this to the “great resignation” but we live in South Africa with a 46% unemployment rate. People do not resign for shits and giggles considering the lack of opportunities.
The company seems to be detached from reality and not at all concerned that they are losing talented people. In my induction group alone, we were six new recruits, I’m the only one left after a year.
With a high unemployment rate in our country, there is no replacement shortage, but then training that new person takes months and quality in our projects suffers.
Today I received a job offer, and I’m wondering if I should not take it? Yet, I enjoy my current work and I enjoy my colleagues (the ones left) … but would you, considering the above, opt to move on?
Edit: I receive a good salary and the work is not difficult. No after hours and it pretty much standard Office vibes with no drama. Once a week we can work from home (even though other departments can work twice a week from home, not sure why we only get once a week).
The new role, I was approached by a contracting house, it will be consulting work with different companies and a variety of projects. Mainly working from home.
