I was hired to do location sound work for a short film. This is what I do for work normally. It was a low rate and I think the guy knew that, I accepted because I haven’t been working a lot this month. I live in NYC and the shoot was in New Jersey. I have equipment and the guy wanted me to make my way there, since UBERs were very pricey I stuck my neck out and rented a car. He told me he would reimburse me but the fact I signed a contract and he took his word back makes me feel like that may not happen. What good is his word if he took it back once already? I’m sick of this shit where a low budget production expects immense things from people. I was probably fired because I didn’t want to go to the script reading zoom meeting, as location sound it’s more important I just read the script, and for low budget I’m not going to take time away from my weekend for you ‘passion project.’ I may never know the answer.
