Holiday Parades are bullshit

This one is just wild, the fact that it seems like no one else has caught on is mind boggling. There's a holiday (Christmas, it's literally JUST christmas, but they call it a “holiday” parade) in Dallas every year. I was invited to participate, as I volunteer with a particular organization that was asked to be in the parade. Sure thing. Sounds good. Well, today, I find out I have to pay $20 for a mandatory sweatshirt to be in this parade. I have to pay. To do something I was *invited* to do.

Keep in mind, every corporate entrant into the parade has to pay for their entry. They are being sponsored by three large businesses. And guests have to pay for tickets to get anywhere near decent spots on the parade route. This is a for-profit entity, and they are not hurting for money. And they want volunteers. To pay. For a sweatshirt they will never wear again. A sweatshirt that costs them $7 each, MAXIMUM. And they want me to pay $20 for it.

Yeah, I think I'll just enjoy my Saturday for free, at home, in my worth-way-more-than-$7 sweater that I CAN wear to more than one thing.
