Housing is not an unsolvable problem, but for the parasitic landlord/rentier class socially murdering the public

The labor movement needs to expand beyond limited plutocratic/kleptocratic framing, to actually solving the systemic underlying issues in “the economy.”

For example, here is a solution to the so-called “housing crisis”:

1.) Implement steeply progressive taxation on housing ownership, particularly for non owner-occupied properties

2.) Use the proceeds to build out more affordable and public housing

The reason this doesn't happen is due to “lobbying” by the parasitic landlord/rentier class to keep the public from having options other than their price-gouging.

Given the unnecessary homelessness problem in the country, this is yet another example of the upper classes socially murdering the public with no recourse.

Adam Smith, Henry George, and Mao were right about landlords.

And Keynes was fundamentally right that working hours should be going down with technological advances.

Without all the price gouging on housing, people could be working substantially less.

With cheaper housing, workers would be in a better position to leave abusive employers.

With cheaper housing, responsible employers wouldn't be price gouged on their employees' wages either.

Progressive taxation on housing ownership should be seen as a necessary social/technological advance (like the weekend and child labor laws) that will lead to shorter working hours and greater empowerment for the public and working classes.
