This happened a decade ago, but reading a recent post or two here reminded me of it.
I was working for a place that to describe as having questionable ethics wouldn't be an overstatement.
While not a legal requirement, I still gave two weeks notice. Here, the employer is required to pay the employee within 6 calendar days of their last day (for my fellow law nerds).
During that last two weeks, things are mostly normal, expect for an “exit interview” where the manager at some point said that I wouldn't last long at the new place and would be asking for my job back within a few months.
I shrug it off, and finish out my time there. I left enough time between that last job and the start date of my next to: Get married, celebrate my birthday, and go on our honeymoon.
So we're already on the island, in a car traveling to a private bed and breakfast on that Friday, and I get a call. “Your final cheque is here for you to pick up.”
Nope. Every time I got paid up until that point has been direct deposit to my account. I told him I was on my honeymoon and there's no way I'm coming back office, and then reminded him that they have less than 48 hours to get the money into my account before they're violating labour laws.
They managed to get it deposited in time.
