I want to build a career, but I keep job hopping.
If the title sounds click bait-y, I promise it's not. I keep starting new jobs, excited at the promise of building a career. But, inevitably, find myself hating the job five or six months down the line. I look at how miserable the supervisor of manager's work is, and I go, I don't want that.
There are so many fields and careers and industries, that I find myself wanting to do them all. Bonus points if it touches many intersections.
I've tried non-profit, tech, start-ups, marketing, operations, customer experience, sales, retail, communications and just most recently, media. Now, I find I want to be a teacher.
I know in order to build a career, you need to solidify your Interests and focus. But here's the problem with me.
Most entry-level or associate type work is the grunt work, day-to-day. Things like processing, billing, admin, paperwork, etc. In order to get that promotion, you need to pay your dues, for a year, year and half in some instances.
I start getting bored in about 3 to 5 months. Unsure how I'll make that year.
Plus, I have an innate curiosity for wanting to try new things.
How do I focus more on a job and forgetting the rest? There's so much I want to try.
How do people not get bored staying at the same company? I wish I could stay at a company for 2 or 3 years.
How do employees do work on the computer 40-hours a week? You don't really have 40-hours of work, do you?
