As for context, i work in a restaurant without contract but i work there about 50 – 60 hours a week. My birthday is in two weeks and my mother wanted to give me a surprise birthday party. That's obviously going to be on the weekend though, when i have to work. I told my employer about this about 2.5 weeks in advance (more than enough time to find a substitute for me) but he's going to try and manipulate me into coming to work that day.
What is an effective way to just say no without starting a full-on war? (because we obviously still need to work together).
