How do you guys feel about lying on a resume?

I've been working in my field for 8 years. I've been pretty successful and feel pretty confident in my position. I've been promoted twice. One of my co-workers makes $30k more than me. There's only really 1 difference between us, he has a college degree and I don't. He also told me he got an offer to another company and I should consider applying. I did and I was rejected because I don't have a degree. This got me thinking, should I just lie on my resume? It could mean a $30k bump in pay. I doubt anyone would question it, because I've been working almost 10 years. My wife is totally against it and I agree it's definitely not ethical, but I do wonder…
