How do you respond to, “Getting a raise won’t make you like the job more”?

I was told this while asking for a raise. I was explaining my frustrations with a recent promotion to a position I wasn’t properly trained for or supported in. The requirements and title do not align. So, I wanted to get paid for taking on more responsibility in stride. This conversation occurred mid-May, I was told to be patient and we’d revisit the topic. Anyways, any tips on negotiating raises with manipulative people would be wonderful. Thanks!
