I've been thinking about this a lot lately because I'm tired of things operating the way they do and I want to be the change I want to see in the world. It's impossible to run even for local government roles if you're poor. You have to have time and money to campaign. Someone with a normal job (40+ hours a week plus commute time) definitely doesn't have the time to campaign and most likely doesn't get the compensation they would need to campaign either. The system is inherently broken and designed this way on purpose to keep disenfranchised folk out of any position that they could use to make things better for themselves or their fellow countrymen.
