For starters this happened almost ten years.
I was ever so lucky to get a second part-time job at Staples (I worked two part-time jobs while I has helping launch a company) and to cut short. They royally tried to fuck me and people.
I was only allowed to work 25 hours a week and if I went over that (happened every week) The Operations Manager would go in and adjust any hours to no more than 25. They told us they, as management, they would get written up, never promoted and fired if any part-timers went over 25 or if any unapproved OT ever happened.
Flash forward a few months. The day I put my two weeks notice in I was told I had to stay 3-4 after closing because there was a big system upgrade happening and I needed to backup all the stores computers on flash drives so all relevant data could be restoredI also worked in Copy and Print even though I knew more than their nerds or geek squad, whatever people. Whatever. That's when the fun happened.
I did in fact back up every single computer on 20 something different fucking flash drives. When I was done I dropped all the flash drives into some of the left behind lugs of flash drives. Basically people would bring in flash drives all the time to print…. Well I've seen some shit and make sure you fucking format your shit right too. Anyways, we had 1000's and 1000's of all these old flash drives since we were never allowed to repurpose or dispose of them just incase people came back. I put in my extra hours (I was over 25) and submitted it to corporate, left, and sent messages that I was never coming back.
The next few days I got none stop messages telling me I wasn't allowed to quit like that and they were freaking out because they couldn't find any of the right flash drives to restore all their data. Only message I ever sent them was I was never told where to put all the flash drives and why would I have stayed late? Wouldn't I have been over 25 hours? I never got a response to that. Fuck Staples and fuck their over the top anti-union video they showed me when I was hired. I apologize for the slight old rant.
TL;DR: Fuck Staples, did unpaid work, backed up all their system files before a system upgrade on flash drives that were then lost in tubs of old flash drives so they lost all store data
