How I left my toxic job and got paid to do it

I started a new job at the beginning of 2022, the pay is a little better, the hours suck, but the office is much nicer and a far more friendly environment. I work as a medical biller & coder, I've been doing it since 2014 so I have a strong background in it. In 2018 I moved to FL and took a job working for a large billing company. The company basically takes over individual doctors offices' billing and does it for them. I worked for that company from 2018-2021 and it was miserable. My experience at that point was working the doctors themselves not a larger company. I was tasked with managing accounts with accounts whose outstanding revenue was over $1,000,000 and was told I needed to reduce those outstanding balances down to 10% within 90 days of employment and maintain an AR between 10-15% which is not easy…

I was tasked with managing accounts with accounts whose outstanding revenue was over $1,000,000 and was told I needed to reduce those outstanding balances down to 10% within 90 days of employment and maintain an AR between 10-15% which is not easy for accounts that large. The company provided 0 training for their proprietary billing software, assigned these massive clients while also piling large stacks of mail the office forwarded to you and were given a mandatory 24hr turnaround time, 0 freedom to make billing decisions meaning everything needed approval from the client (though in that case why even hire us if you're just going to tell us how to bill), take patient calls, and the list goes on. The pay was awful, starting rate was $14/hr, while I made $20/hr at my old job. Your yearly raises were never to exceed 5% of your hourly rate, they had cameras watching your every move, they monitored your calls, blocked websites like pandora but not youtube lol, were given random cell phone checks like you're in high school, and had to wear these nonsense uniforms. The coworkers were cliquy, management had favorite employees that got the good clients and lower workloads, management would attach the emails where they'd insult you behind your back to email conversations (Boomers just don't know how to use the internet), and the company fired at least 3 people every month.

Okay with that established, when COVID hit, I shamed the company during my performance review and blasted them for offering 0 safety precautions, after I just had a newborn. So they put in a work from home program. My wife seeing how miserable this job had made me told me I needed to find something new. So here's how I got back at my old company. On company time while working from home, I would go to job interviews until I eventually interviewed for the company I work for now. These morons paid me to go to these interviews and it was awesome. Nothing felt better than when my old supervisor got blindsided by a call my new boss made asking her about my performance at the company. Apparently I got a very good review lol I took the position and gave my old supervisor a scathing exit interview. I've never looked back. My current job isn't the best however anything was better than the old guys. I wonder if the email I sent out to all the other employees telling them my wage ever went out and if it did, what was the fallout? I had threatened to quit back in 2019, they were only paying me $17.50 and told them unless they raised me to $22 I'd walk. They offered me $21.25 to stay and then refused to raise my pay to $22 before I left lol I had no other job the threat was empty but they didnt dare call my bluff. They needed me so bad, they were so sad when I quit lol Their tears were so delicious 🙂 Thanks for reading my story
