Yesterday I worked a 12 hour shift, since the flight scheduled for 6am was pushed back to 11:15am. There was another also scheduled for 8:30am, which I was working. While I was waiting, I went to Dunkin's to get a sandwich and a drink for breakfast. I chatted with the sole cashier who was there at 6am, and what he told me was about the most frustrating thing I've heard.
He's been employed there for about 3 years now. His sister was hired a year after. They basically run the two stores (one before and one after security) without much help from others. Other workers are there sometimes, but the past couple days he's been there either on his own or with his sister for 11 hours. When they are there, they don't do anything, letting he and his sister do everything. Callouts are dealt with, but when others call out it's fine, when he does it's “we could really use you, but it's whatever”. The cherry on top is the fact he's been working 40 hours a week for $10/hr, for the past 3 years. My jaw dropped when he said that. He busts his ass over there, and from what I heard, others have gotten raises. I don't know what the deal is over there, but it's another case of being mad about something I can't do.
