Hi
I manage a small tech team in the software space (6people). It’s a saas company and in startup phase (50 employees or so) with a stable enough business model that we aren’t running around with our hair on fire. In Australia.
Everyone gets 4 weeks of annual leave accrued pay to pay.
When anyone in my team ask for leave I instantly grant it basically no questions asked. Over the last 18months I have approved leave instantly except for one case where I’ve asked the person if they could move the dates by a single day in order for employee 1 (taking leave) and employee 2 (coming back from leave) to do a handover to keep some velocity.
My question. How normal is this type of culture around leave? Sounds like this is rare based on what I have read in this community. Is this something that we should celebrate and promote when hiring? Is this rare enough to be a differentiator for candidates? Share any thoughts please – critical feedback also welcomed. Thanks
