How to approach my boss about not wanting a trainee

Idk if this is even the right place to ask this but maybe someone could give me some advice? Last week, my work got a new hire, and my boss has assigned them to shadow me for part of each shift. This person is nice and a hard worker, nothing wrong with them. But I’m a cranky old curmudgeon who is perfectly nice but likes to work ALONE. I don’t have the patience to be chatting through the whole shift. What’s more is this person takes 3 times as long to do everything and doesn’t seem to listen or grasp when I tell them how to cut down on their time. So each of our shifts together have had us leaving work a half hour to 45 minutes late, in a job that doesn’t pay overtime. We’re not even getting more done! How should I tell my boss that I…

How should I tell my boss that I really don’t want to work beside this person anymore and would like to return to my solo tasks?

Edit: the unpaid overtime is a Union thing
