Hey. I'm looking to unplug from the system more and more. I've got one piece of the puzzle solved. I'm self-employed. I'm a contractor/skilled trade/whatever you want to call it. I work on people's houses. I make about… $300-800 a day. $300 is a kind of light day, could be done in as little as 2 hours. $800 I'm busting butt pretty much the whole day. I live in a MCOL area. Florida to be exact. It's DEFINITELY not as cheap as it once was… actually, the exact location I'm at is not cheap at all… it's not California expensive but it's not inexpensive I'm definitely going to have to move to another city if I want to make this dream a reality.
I'm thinking of moving about an hour away and just commuting to my work service area. Spending like 100-150k (150k absolute max. the less the better obviously) on a trailer or manufactured house on like an acre or 2. A stick-built house would put this number closer to 200-250k but that would defeat the purpose of all of this. A trailer is cheaper. The goal is to work only like 3-4 days a week max. Take a week off a month. And take January off. And June off. Has anyone here done something similar? How do I make it sustainable? I have a lot of money saved up. What other sources of income could I get into that are pretty low effort? I used to buy and flip stuff a lot of ebay and do garage sale stuff but it's been like 4-5 years. I don't know how easy it is to do anymore.
