I live in Florida and right now I’m taking a work hiatus to attend school full time.
Hurricane Ian gave me flashbacks to when I had a small office job doing data entry for a third party billing dept when a tropical storm was heading our way.
We were all deciding whether or not to close the office when the storm was expected to hit in a few days.
While less intense than a Hurricane and not worth evacuating for, I didn’t see the the need to go to the office either
I told my supervisor in front of everyone not to expect me for several reasons: 1. My car is low and our parking lot flooded after regular rain. I didn’t earn in a month what it would cost to repair my car. 2. Danger of unnecessarily driving on the road, especially over bridges. 3. Power was expected to go out and made no sense to pay me to stare at the wall since my job needed a computer and internet connection.
When I got home the local sheriff begged people to stay home during the storm. I forwarded the video to the owner. She promptly closed the office for that day. My supervisor still went to the office to prove a point
