Husbands initial interview with a large social media company that everyone knows

My husband is a director at a tech company. It’s a good job, has good benefits but he’s ready to do something different. He’s very experienced and this isn’t his first rodeo. He decided to start looking to see what’s out there and got a call from Meta. He did not apply to them, they found him. Here’s what came out of just the initial interview: When he asked what position they were calling him about he was told there wasn’t a specific position. He was told after the initial interview there would be 8 additional interviews and he should be prepared for 8-10 hours of prep time for each interview. He decided to start looking to see what’s out there and got a call from Meta. He did not apply to them, they found him. Here’s what came out of just the initial interview:

  1. When he asked what position they were calling him about he was told there wasn’t a specific position.

  2. He was told after the initial interview there would be 8 additional interviews and he should be prepared for 8-10 hours of prep time for each interview. They would send him the material in an email and he would need to basically put together a presentation on whatever topic they wanted.

  3. If he makes it through all 8 interviews he will then be “hired” and have to go through a multiplayer week boot camp. After the boot camp they will determine what position to put him in.

  4. There’s no guarantee that there will be a position after the boot camp but they will keep him on payroll for awhile.

She then proceeded to tell him that she had been doing this for more than 2 years and has never had anyone get through the whole process.

Really people, quit agreeing to this crap. This is NOT how you hire someone and no company is worth the equivalent of two weeks of free work. Not to mention any work that you do during that “interview prep” is theirs, come up with a good idea? They don’t have to hire you and can execute on it after they kick you to the curb.
