Antiwork

I am getting very tired of all this “work very hard” mentality at work. It is soul sucking and not rewarding at all.

I work for a pretty large and well-known organiation. The job environment is relatively nice, and the company is known for some good work-life balance practices. The things that is bothering me as of late is some extreme level of work hard sort of culture.. when you put in a lot of extra work for no additional financial benefit at all. For example, we got a manager in our team who is a “dedicated hard-worker”. The person is pretty nice overall, but their approach seems to be very… what I call “slave-minded”. They would always create extra work for our team because “the top managment might ask this might ask that, and we should keep showing what we have done”. Or taking onto some volunteering events and forcing other team members to participate in it.. Needless to say that the person is working long hours and sometimes weekends and is…

Needless to say that the person is working long hours and sometimes weekends and is sort of promoting that culture, by saying that “we need to support the business anytime otherwise mr/ms higher-up will come and put a negative note against your name”. Basically acting scared and desperate.. and sacrificing their own time and freedom to do something for a large organization rather then just taking on those tasks on Monday. Obviously there is no extra pay, benefit or bonus for going those extra miles.

The company has also been notorious for paying under market wages and the work-life balance perk I have mentioned earlier is becoming more and more meaningless after all… so it is something that is kinda bothering me a lot at the moment and I am also concerned that there are so many people who are willing to put up with this and keep promoting the work-hard culture when the wages are not keeping up with inflation and higher expectations.. Some people are even scared to apply for other jobs because “I don't wanna let my boss down and burn the bridges”.. Well, do you even have any sort of dignity or intention to make your life better?

Sorry if it is a bit too long.. apparently I don't have anyone to discuss it with..
