I am trying to be better, everyone!
I recently was promoted to manager, which also came with a nice wage finally. I was authorized to hire someone.
Advertised for the position with pay “based on experience” (which I had no choice about).
But I made sure to ask my boss about pay scale for these folks before I went into interviews with candidates, and was very pleased with what my boss allowed me to offer someone with no experience! $16.00 per hour.
Boss said he understands we can't expect people to work for us at $15 an hour if they can get that bagging groceries or selling booze and cigs. Horray!!!
I also made sure to respond to every submitted application that I could, and let them know we had received their applications. Once I had hired someone, I let others who had applied know the position was filled.
Any other applications I have received since then, I have let them know the position is currently filled but we would file their application away for the future.
By the way, for anyone wondering, plenty of people want to work. They are just living out of state and there is no housing!
