I am so tired for people being praised for overworking themselves

Today I asked to work from home because I have a bad fever and didn’t fall asleep until 4 am. My manager got petty and just kept reading my responses but not replying. She was clearly upset at me for calling in. I’m so tired of people thinking it’s a bad thing to take care of yourself. I hear older people say all the time that they “haven’t taken a day off in 30 years”. THAT IS NOT COMMENDABLE. I hear older people say all the time that they “haven’t taken a day off in 30 years”. THAT IS NOT COMMENDABLE. Of course working hard is something to be proud of, and nothing in life comes easy, but if you are doing it to the point that you are sacrificing your own health then it is not worth it. My dad didn’t get to see the birth of his first child because his boss wouldn’t give him the day off. I hear people miss huge family events and life milestones just because they can’t take work off. I understand that most people can’t afford to take the time off, but that is what is so sad about it. I wish these things were taken more casually, because some of these life events will never happen again. These people do not care about you the way that you think they do. No matter what company you work at, you are replaceable. They will treat you like an option but get mad if you do the same to them. I don’t mean to sound ignorant, but the way that we have built things has set us all up for miserable lives.
