I'm a senior in college. I'm not receiving any financial help from family, but I am getting grants and scholarships so covering school isn't an issue. But I do have my rent, utilities, food, etc.
Everywhere around me pays jack shit. For a city with nearly 40,000 people you'd think there's be quite a bit available, but NOOOOOOOO. If I go on Indeed and look at results, all of it is wage slaving bullshit, low end starter jobs that pay maybe a couple bucks over min wage.
I'm really trying to move out of the retail sector if I can. I really don't have much of a choice, though. I've been working retail deli jobs the past two years. Right now I get paid $14.50 which, while at least it's not min wage, is still not enough for me to live off of. The other day I applied to a Giant Eagle for their deli position to see what they'd offer. I didn't ever meet with their hiring manager in person, and I was told their starting pay was $11/hr but that was subject to change based on experience. My two years of experience got me an offer of $11.50–a whopping extra 50 cents. I promptly told them they're a bunch of clowns.
I seriously don't know what to do. Everyone that is hiring is so picky, too.
