I was a dummy and never furthered my education after high school. Now the only work I am qualified for is service type jobs. These all seem to require nights, weekends and holidays. I have spent the past few years working as a cook in group homes and nursing homes. The schedule is better than most jobs that I am qualified for but still require weekends and holidays. I am approaching my mid-30's and I'm just so over having unpredictable schedules and missing out on stuff because I work every fucking weekend and holiday. Figured, what the hell? Literally every place is hiring right now. Indeed has almost all of them listed as “Urgently hiring, posted 30+ days ago.” I figured at least one of them would accept a candidate with a slightly limited availability. I applied for first shift Monday- Friday +will work holidays but not weekends. Figured they'd rather have a warm body 5/7 days of the week than no warm body at all. Nope. Not one single call back. I fucking hate the current job market. They are so desperate to hire people but at the same time they are completely unwilling to bend or concede any of their terms. They would much rather hunker down and wait 6 months for a unicorn applicant and work with a skeleton crew than make any acceptions. So fucking frustrating.
