So I'm an inexperienced welder. I've been in school a semester already and this semester ends in May. I got my first welding gig at a custom trailer shop. The pay there is $15 an hour. I was fine with this because the manager lead me to believe I would be receiving hands on training. I've been there since January and I've only welded twice both times I had no help. They have me doing the crap jobs which I'd be fine with if I was accumulating value by practicing welding. Its just so stupid that I work around dangerous machinery and hazardous chemicals all day for that low of pay. Everytime I get gas too I see a now hiring sign outside of qt for $20 , but that job wouldn't help my build my welding skills. The job has a high turnover rate. Plus someone on my team is in the hospital rn getting skin grafts because a diesel tank blew up on him. I was nearly blown up yesterday because they had me removing vinyl inside of a trailer with a blowtorch and some idiot started painting the outside of the trailer with spray paint. I know I'm not that valuable of a welder because of a lack of experience but it really hurts to see gas station cashiers making more when I used to be one
