They paid me £5 an hour (that's about $6.50 if you're in the US). Yes, it minimum wage, because I'm under 18, but how the hell is it fair? I do the same work as everyone else in that café, but get paid half of what all my coworkers earn.
I'm sick and tired of being the one they call for cover. It's always me, because I'm a hell of a lot cheaper for them. I'm only supposed to work Saturdays and Sundays, and I attend school Monday – Friday normally. Just because it's the Easter holidays they think I'll drop fucking everything to cover when they've given me half an hour notice?? I have 28 exams starting in 3 weeks time, so no, your business is not exactly my priority, believe it or not!
I fucking hated it there. The customers were nice, as were my coworkers, but the owner. Fucking hell. A few weeks ago she asked me how school was, I said I've got exams in just under 2 months. She said, “Oh, well they're not exactly important, so you'll still be coming both days”. Well, they're the most important thing in my fucking life so far, and I'd told her 3 months in advance that I'll be taking Saturdays or Sundays off for the 6 weeks I've got exams – her choice which. So god knows why she thought I'd still be coming in on both days when I'd told her so far in advance.
She sent the rota out for the next month yesterday evening. I'm fucking scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday the first week of my exams. I emailed her and reminded her that I couldn't work both days, she said “tough”.
I snapped, and sent her an email telling her I won't be seeing her ever again, because I fucking quit. Good luck covering Saturday AND Sunday instead of just one!
