I found an employee that… cares? :s

Didn’t think I’d be writing this but… I’ve actually found a place to work that is… well, amazing. I work in Technology, specifically as a Service Management Lead for a Cloud Provider. Essentially I lead a team of Engineers, Support Personnel and Service Delivery peeps. I joined in January this year coming from the usual micro-managing, bottom line squeezing toxic culture. Here are things I found: Interview process was slick, and well done: an informal chat followed by two stages. Entire process was quick (complete within 10 days) with a lot of open feedback I asked for a salary range that was matching market rate – the offer I received was immediately at the top of the range, with no negotiation or justification needed They asked what equipment I needed, specified a new MacBook Pro, huge monitor etc – all shipped to my house with no questions asked a week…

I work in Technology, specifically as a Service Management Lead for a Cloud Provider. Essentially I lead a team of Engineers, Support Personnel and Service Delivery peeps.

I joined in January this year coming from the usual micro-managing, bottom line squeezing toxic culture. Here are things I found:

  • Interview process was slick, and well done: an informal chat followed by two stages. Entire process was quick (complete within 10 days) with a lot of open feedback

  • I asked for a salary range that was matching market rate – the offer I received was immediately at the top of the range, with no negotiation or justification needed

  • They asked what equipment I needed, specified a new MacBook Pro, huge monitor etc – all shipped to my house with no questions asked a week before start date

  • Unlimited leave. Whilst we all know this can never be unlimited was told that as long as performance was good they’d raise no eyebrows at even 48 days off a year fully paid

  • Completely remote, with two offices available should I want to use them

  • Monthly social events, with one or two ‘company holidays’ a year. Last one a couple months ago to Spain, all fully paid. Never tight either – nice hotels, great food etc.

  • Flexible hours (just need to make sure core hours are covered 10:00 – 16:00)

  • 10 fully paid training days a year

  • Complimentary health insurance and other benefits

  • HR regularly (have had 3 since January) send hampers to our addresses randomly (Happy Eid, here’s a hamper to keep away the winter blues etc)

  • Real autonomy and trust extended to me to do my job

And here’s the kicker – none of it was bullshit. All of the above was actually the case after I started. It’s restored my faith in that there are employers out there that have it right. I’ve had an offer for a job that could essentially work out to 6 figures and I’ve turned it down, because for once in my life I’ve found a place that doesn’t make me dread Mondays!
