Just had my FOURTH layoff in 5 years today. Technically, only 3 layoffs and one business closing, but those three layoffs occurred all since 2020. One was just me because they eliminated the position, another was departmental because of COVID, and the last one today (only at the place 4.5 months) was 1/4 out of a staff of 50. I'm in marketing in a professional capacity. I have degrees and experience, but who the fuck wants to hire someone that looks like they have such a spotty record?
Let's not forget my state government took away 10 weeks of unemployment coverage (from 26 weeks to 16 weeks) and expects people to take jobs up to 50% less of what they made before in a relatively quick time frame to get said benefits as of July 1st. This is supposed to get us workers “back to work” when in reality it paralyzes me and puts my entire well being and that of my child (single mom) at risk. I can't accept a job less than what I was making before and I need unemployment benefits. This is such a fucking joke.
