Antiwork

I got a way better offer. Quitting time advice.

I took a job at a large family owned company with promises of building my own team and autonomy. 3 years passed (2 with Covid restricting my job search). Being a single parent with full custody- I needed this job, and they knew it. Turns out my micromanager boss wanted a lackey to do all his work and take all the credit. I was lambasted when I so much as chatted with the owner (all communication had to go through micro) and I wasn’t allowed to hire anyone (even though profits were through the roof). I was only given a 2% raises (even after requesting one that was inline with inflation), and my duties became degrading. He derived weird pleasure from asking me to do bizarre tasks, like go to the warehouse and count boxes or move pallets. Called me in on weekends to organize files…absolute BS for my title…

Everyone quits under him, he’s been sent to management training twice – but I think the owners like him because he squeezes the lifeblood out of workers and brags – “I hired that guy at half his last salary”. Ugh.

Anyway, I finally had enough and hustled nights and weekends and got my dream job with a 50% raise at a Fortune 500 – fully remote. I’ll be working for a former colleague who values my skill set. I’ll also be working in Micro’s dream city.

Anyway, Micro has dumped 3 peoples jobs on me (what a cost cutting hero!) and he’s going to be completely lost when I leave. My job is specialized – he has no idea how to so much as find/open a file in the applications. It’s going to be a shit show. There is absolute no one in the company that could jump in. I’d love to quit in a clever way. Thoughts?
