I got emailed at work today because I didn’t call my managers personal cell phone during a medical emergency.

I'm a security guard. When something happens I need a bunch of information about the who what where when etc. One of the managers called 911 because one of the employees was having chest pains and heat exhaustion. I was told about it before the paramedics came in, and I had to escort them into the building. While doing this I called my manager, which is normal protocol when 911 is called. He didn't answer his work cellphone. No problem. I had to talk to a bunch of different people during this incident, find out everything I needed for a report. After I was back in the office writing the report, I called him again on his work cellphone. No answer. I got emailed about it the next morning. Is said “[my manager] needs to be called on his personal cell phone if something like that occurs.” Which is fine,…

I had to talk to a bunch of different people during this incident, find out everything I needed for a report.

After I was back in the office writing the report, I called him again on his work cellphone. No answer. I got emailed about it the next morning. Is said “[my manager] needs to be called on his personal cell phone if something like that occurs.”

Which is fine, whatever.

The problem is that it's literally his fucking job. He NEEDS to be reachable outside of normal buissness, and he chose to do it himself instead of someone else.

It's the same as me needed to be reachable whenever I'm at work, but nobody would ever have to call my personal cell because that's not part of the job.

So why am I getting scolded for not calling a personal cell phone?
