So I was working at a really shitty restaurant in a local vendor market. Technically it was two restaurants owned by the same couple. I would work two regs, take out all the food, and deal with the mess ups every time. Literally doing the job of three different people, and still managed to enjoy it somehow.
Now into how it was so bad… My first sign was them giving me less than 30 hr average when I was told I would be full time. Keep in mind, this wasn’t to make room for other workers. I was the only worker most of the time, and when I wasn’t working, it was on the kitchen staff to do my jobs. It was purely because they did not want to pay me adequately. They fired so many people, whom were hard workers. It was all because they spoke up against them. One even got fired after getting covid from our boss, and they were put in a hospital bed.
The biggest thing for me was the scheduling issue. I had told them during my interview that I would need a week off in the summer for a family trip. They agreed. I reminded them weeks leading up to. Yet I was still scheduled. They lectured me for weeks afterward that I hadn’t told them. So there’s that. Then I had some medical issues, which made me miss a couple days and be late others. I had stuck my head out so many other times, it seemed like they would understand that. No. I was yet again lectured for not being able to fit them into my schedule.
At some point I just kind of gave up. Just stopped trying. They started lecturing me for wearing ‘skimpy’ clothes to work, when plenty of others did. Just very weird, targeted stuff after this. They eventually hired a new kitchen manager, who ended up being a whole other problem.
So about a month ago now, they texted me 30 minutes before my shift I was fired. They blamed this on my mom coming in drunk. Which tbh I believe, but was obviously a cover. Found out from a friend who still worked there, the kitchen manager wanted to hire his gf to take my position. It’s just so yucky how businesses like this are allowed to continue. Don’t even get me started on the disgusting condition of that kitchen. The amount of health code violations are scary.
Now I work a very healthy job, at a wonderful company. Now one of my favorite hobbies is to read their new 1/3 star reviews. Just thought I would share my shitty work experience.
