I got my MF’ing raise!

I’ve been trying to get a raise for a while now, but recently I got serious with it. I began looking for other jobs in case I got the run around. I got a great offer for $25 an hour, where I currently make $22. The problem is that I actually enjoy my current job. But, it’s not the job I signed up for. It’s a primary care doctor’s office and I was supposed to work with an NP when I started in January. I was all trained and they were just picking which of the two NPs without nurses to assign me with permanently. They have a specialist there, though everyone else is a PCP: an endocrinologist, MD. His nurse suddenly quit (no call no show) and I was asked to fill in back in March. This is a speciality position and it requires a lot more than primary.…

This is a speciality position and it requires a lot more than primary.

Well, about a week after I was asked to fill in, the doc sent an email to my boss asking if he could just keep me as his nurse. I’m an LPN & they were going to hire him another RN, which is what he’s always had. So this is already saving them money. In my state an RN is a four year degree – LPN is a trade school around a year or less. Not to mention that I’ve streamlined everything and got his whole caseload “caught up”, implementing new processes for efficiency while also training a medical assistant. (They approved an additional medical assistant right before the last RN left, so this training fell on me somehow. I had one pretty much up to speed but they left to another practice and I had to start over.)

I told my boss I needed a raise for all these reasons and more. She said she didn’t think they would do it. It’s a big company and it’s not at all up to her, but they do listen to her regarding my performance. She really did stand up for me and I am both so surprised and appreciative. I know this doesn’t happen everywhere, and I’m extremely lucky. I thought I would share a win!
