I woke up one morning with extreme period pain and I seriously considered calling out, but I thought it would look bad on me, so I went in anyway and tried to tough it out.
I managed to work for 2 hours before the pain made me throw up and I had to be sent home.
It's always the first day of my period that hurts really bad, as in so bad that I cannot move most of the day. The rest of that week is no big deal.
So I get sent home and later that night, after feeling a bit better, I decided to check my schedule to see when I work the next day, and I noticed that a day I previously had scheduled off was all of a sudden scheduled for me to work.
The next day I went in, I asked my manager why I work all of a sudden that day. She responded with “you need to make up your hours for the day you left early.”. I really wanted to get mad at that.
I had 6 hours left in that day's shift, that I now had to “make it up” with an 8 hour shift on a day that I was supposed to be off? well sorry that I was in so much pain that I physically could not move and I threw up.
On top of that, no one was called in as my replacement.
so why did I have to make up hours when there was no replacement for me and literally no one else was made to “make up” their hours any time they called out? Is there anything I could do in the future to stop this bullshit?
