I had an epiphany the other day

The less I (physically/hard) work the more I get paid. For most my life I grew up just above the poverty line sometimes below it. As teenager I'd spend the summer helping my grandparents on their farm in the RGV. My junior and senior year I worked as a food runner and made tips plus minimum wage. I joined the military right out of high school and from there first learned how contractors doing the same job as me, sometimes less and for less hours, were making 3x what I was. I joined the military right out of high school and from there first learned how contractors doing the same job as me, sometimes less and for less hours, were making 3x what I was. I got out and got a position as a logistics coordinator for $20/hr in Austin. Not bad but still struggling. I applied for another position within the company overseas on a government contract with amazing benefits. 60k starting, HOLA/COLA, and hardship pay. I come in, do my 8hrs, can take lunch when I want usually an hour, if I go over 8 hrs I just tell my manager how much I went over and leave early or come in later the next day. Even as a Catholic I also got to experience a 30/hr work week during Ramadan (Islamic Holy Month) with no deduction in pay since this company honors the local labor laws. I still do logistics work supporting IT so all day I sit in an air conditioned office sometimes assisting remote sites but overall I have no physical obligations. It just blows my mind how for years I broke my back putting up with 12-14 hr days, senior staff taking credit for the work me and others did, and was told to be grateful for whatever time off we got.
