The interviewer was immediately aghast that I had facial hair and a visible tattoo (inoffensive vegvisir on my bicep), which was not mentioned as being forbidden in the job description, upset that I wanted to clarify the work hours and pay rate, then even more upset when I wanted to negotiate the pay after learning how she was trying to low-ball me (less than 13/ht). She then said that I didn't seem like a good fit with the company culture (it's a single small business, not a chain), which was a shame because my demeanour and resume seemed like a perfect fit for the position, and told me that I shouldn't treat an interview as a business negotiation, but instead see it as “an opportunity to show my passion.” I chuckled, told her that I completely agreed about this not being a good fit, shook her hand, and walked out trying not to laugh.
Any time I hear “culture” I mentally drop the second syllable and know immediately that this is a slave labour job. She also wanted me to be on call 24/7 without pay unless I was called in incase another employee was unavailable and chastised me for telling her how job postings should be made even though that was my job for 4 years. Fuck that noise. I retorted it to indeed, CareerBuilder, ziprecruiter, and LinkedIn as insufficient info and misleading data.
What the fuck is that nonsense?
